Since its introduction in 2013, the Subaru BRZ has become popular for the small size and quite a low price for a sports car. However, even enthusiasts have to admit that this model has not progressed with the years and still has a pretty weak engine. Let’s take a look at the quarter time of every year’s model and have them compared.
The 2021 Subaru BRZ has a 2-liter engine with four flat cylinders. Its power is 205 hp @ 7,000 rpm, and the torque is 156 lbs.-ft. @ 6400 rpm. BRZ needs 14.7 seconds to reach a quarter-mile and 6.3 seconds for a 60 MPH speed. As for the acceleration, the 2021 Subaru BRZ is desperately behind its rivals, reaching 60 MPH from zero, and at a quarter-mile run, it wins the last place only.
The BRZ model of 2020 makes the same 205 hp @ 7,000 rpm and 156 lbs.-ft. @ 6400 rpm. The acceleration parameters are quite average compared to similar performers: it needs 6.3 seconds for reaching 60 MPH from standing. But as for the quarter-mile time, it takes the 2020 Subaru BRZ almost one second less than its 2021 equivalent, showing the result of 13.6 seconds.
The 2019 version of Subaru BRZ has the same 2-liter Flat 4 engine with the power and torque figures identical to those of 2020 and 2021 years’ models: 205 hp @ 7000 rpm and 156 lb.-ft. @ 6400 rpm. This BRZ has a bit worse acceleration parameters than the next years’ BRZs. It needs 6.4 seconds to reach 60 MPH from a standstill and takes 14.8 seconds to run 0.25 miles. We have compared the acceleration parameters of 16 competitors of Subaru BRZ, and it proved to be quite an average player. The results are bearable both in terms of the 0-60 and quarter-mile tests.
The 2018 models of Subaru BRZ show a bit worse power (200 hp @ 7,000 rpm) and torque (151 lb.-ft. @ 6,400 rpm). Still, acceleration numbers are similar to those of 2019: 6.4 seconds and 14.8 seconds for reaching 60 MPH and a quarter-mile accordingly.
In 2017 the car’s horsepower and torque grew up to 205 hp @ 7,000 rpm and 156 lb.-ft. @ 6,400 rpm (like in 2019-2021 models). It reaches 60 MPH within 6.4 seconds and the 0.25-mile mark in 14.8 seconds.
2016 Subaru BRZ’s power and torque are equal to those of 2018: 200 hp @ 7000 rpm and 151 lb.-ft. @ 6400 rpm. Acceleration tests show worse numbers than in previous years: 7.3 seconds for 0-60 MPH and 15.6 seconds for ¼ mile.
All younger models of Subaru BRZ (of 2015, 2014, and 2014 years) possess the same 200 horsepower @ 7,000 rpm and the torque of 151 lb.-ft @ 6,400 rpm. Its acceleration is equal to 6.4 seconds for 60 MPH and 15.3 seconds to get a quarter-mile.
